I have a '37 JD B (ser. 42598) I have had it for about 4 years, i was going to put new pipe from the manifold to the muffler on it because mine was welded up and bent. I got a new one from Deere and went to put it on but it the manifold part where it bolts on is Horz. and the pipe is vertical. I looked at some pictures and the manifold seems to be off a early styled B. My question is, would a pipe off a early styled B work? Or do i need to get a new manifold. About how much is a used one? I am only 17 and want it to look half way right. I just don't like that old pipe makes the tractor look like junk. Thanks

To use the correct pipe you will have to replace the manifold. The manifold you have is off of a early styled B which has more bend in the pipe to connect to the muffler, which is in the center of the hood (your B is side by side). Now you can take your old pipe, saw it off at the flange and go to a muffler shop and have a piece bent at a 90 degree angle, cut it off at the proper length and weld it in the correct position. You can make a decent looking pipe this way. It depends if you want to shell out the money to make it perfect. It's not always necessary like some people say.
