My '38 B sounds like it's running on one cylinder. Doesn't have the power it should, either. Could this be just a simple spark plug or ignition problem?

Pull the plug wire on one side and see if it dies.
If it does, that was the good cylinder. If it doesn't make any difference, that cylinder isn't doing anything. If it makes it rougher, it's probably ok, maybe just something fouled or carb out of adjustment.

Philip. Its probably just a plug or needs new points and condensor and maybe wires. First remove and clean the plugs, check the point gap to see if its 0.015 and try her again. Its most likely the right side plug it dont do much at idle and if idled alot, it may wet foul out. I use Autolite 3076 in my 38 B and run my jets as lean as possible which helps reduce wet fouling, since parades and idle is hard on those plugs anyway. I assume the carb is set about right?? do u have alot of black or blue smoke out the stack????? ? Ol John T in Indiana

Don't forget plug wires! When I was a kid on the farm, our B started mis-firing, but only under load. About drove the mechanic nuts, and he replaced almost everything electrical. My dad finally substituted a plug wire, one side only, and the problem was solved. Careful inspection of the old wire showed a hairline crack that apparently only shorted when under load. Crack was inside metal tube carrying wire from distributor to plug, so wasn't visible.
