Put a new 8V battery in the trator today--What a difference! I'm not sure how the 6V charging system is going to act. Ammeter shows a much heavier discharge with the lights on. I haven't seen it charge yet. What should I expect?

Dennis, If I remember corectly the old B has a Delco 3 brush generator
.One of thoes brushes is adjustable with a screw in a adjustable slot.
If yours does it can be adjusted to charge your 8 volt batery by moving
the 3rd brush holder.I dont remember wich way to move it yoll just have to
move it one way or the other and start it up,and see wich way to charge
the most. Hope this helps you out. Denny

Dennis, you can expect the battery to eventually run down unless you can find an old fashion generator shop that can adjust the voltage regulator up a bit. Generators dont know what voltage they are, thats increased by turning them faster or incresing their field strength. You can also expect any lights will burn a little brighter, but due to extra current passing through them, the filaments may burn out sooner. The starter and ammeter should be fine. A battery is an energy storage device and its "power" (volts times amps delivered) or storage capacity is a function of the amount of lead plate surface area and acid. A 12 volt battery may not necesarily be able to store more "power" than a 12, it depends again on the amount of lead and plate surface area and a huge huge 6 volter may store more energy than a little wimpy 12 volter. You can expect the battery to go dead unless you make adjustments to your charging system.

The eight volt battery will give 133% of origional voltage and 177% of the designed power by electrical devices.
