Need some help indentifying the year of a B I looked at today. Could not find a serial number plate. Although I didn't know where to look, I went over it pretty well and didn't see one. It's got electric start but looks like maybe a magneto. Has three gauges on the dash, hand clutch. Appears to have hydraulics maybe...has two horizontal shafts under the seat which look like would turn to move a lift arm. Has a PTO with a spring loaded cover over it. Very nice little tractor...sheet metal is almost perfect and I didn't see any rust. There was a casting number on the right rear axle housing...B 2405R.

The owner couldn't tell me much about it. (He apparently has a disability that impacts his ability to speak and remember things.) Any help in how to identify the year would be appreciated.

It's a late styled B. After serial number 201000. If it has a square axle housing it's after serial number 260984.

Nate:
Have a B in the yard now that we acquired last week, Serial 257817 - with SQUARE axle housings.
Go figure! What I'd like to know, is what year is it? Have seen data on the net saying both '49 and '50, So which is it?

Regards,
Ray

Frog Level..!!
The serial number plate should be located just about the drive pully and just under the magneto..
Sounds like you are describing a late model styled B but without the SN in will be dificult to determine the exact year of the ole gal..
