My brother is a Kabota salesman,(that is his problem) and I have John Deere tractors, as you might realize this gets some discussions started at family get togethers. My brother said that there is no John Deere agricultural tractors manufactured in North America. I find this hard to beleive. Is he right and do I have to eat my words? He said some are assembled here but are all manufactured across the pond????? If he is not right what models are made here? Thanks for the help.

Heard of a couple of new owners of Kubota's using bush hogs that stripped some gears in their tranmissions when the engine stalled for some unknown reason. That dealer now insists on installing slip clutches on new bush hogs sold with new tractors and over-running pto couplers to prevent losing their reputation!!!!

Hey RCH,
Just thought you'd like to know.....
Worked at a John Deere dealership for 8 years. Other than regular service's, customer abuse repairs, and a very few manufactoring defects,
Pretty much felt like the maytag man. Now working at Kubota dealership [3 years] I'm over worked, these things just don't hold up like the Deeres do.
Kubota parts and service support are ridiculous.
But can't complain about the job security, lot's of overtime..... .

The 6405, 6605, and 7405 are built in Mexico, they are a version of the 6000/7000 series tractors. They run on the same drive train and chasis, but have a different hydraulic system and are only available in open station tractors.. They are built and sold to run agaist some to of the cheaper tractors on the market.. (some how..Kubota and Massey come to mind. heeheeee ) basically they are bid tractor.. sold main on contracts.. There is a difference between being "maufactured" in America and "assembled" in America. Those ones from Georgia are still just green and yellow Yanmars that are put together in GA from parts shipped over here.

All except 6000 series cast, stampted & bolted together in North America except for Yanmar engines and a few parts in wee tractors. Some industrial excavators made in Japan. The 6000 series is built primarly in Germany and avalable there with a road gear over 30 MPH. Most Gators still built in Welland Ontario but Japanese engines.

You're a winner! According to John Deere's website, brochures, and my owners manual my new JD 5105 was manufactured in Augusta, GA. Right here in the USA! Enjoy!

You win! I just got back from the promised land (Waterloo). Toured the plant. The foundery, transmission and engine factories as well as the assembly plant(7000,8000,9000) are there. Some of the mid-size are made in GA. You can't get more American than Iowa and Georgia! Nuff said, HMan

If I'm not mistaken even the new compact tractors (Small 5000 series) are made in the US now. The older ones were made in Japan. The eccomonic conditions recently have made the US the low cost area to build them. The new plant is down in the southeast somewhere. I see truck loads going northwest on the interstate. Garden tractors are produced in Wisconsin, and the large ag. tractors in Iowa.

I'm not sure where the parts are made, but they are assembled in Grovetown, GA. Deere calls it Augusta, but the plant is actually in Grovetown. They are expanding a bunch. It's about 60 miles from me.

Sorry, 4000 & 5000. I checked the Deere site.

4000 is assembled in Horicon Wis. and Augusta Ga.
5000 in Augusta Ga.

In fact Deere is expanding it's Augusta plant.

Be that as it all may, in that class of tractor, the Kubota is a better product.

Kubota's are cheaper to buy new, you can't even compare them to John Deere in quality. If the definition of a better product is lower cost, initially, then kubota wins. After a few years of running a kubota compared to the initial cost of buying and running a Deere. The Kubota will catch up to what the Deere initially cost and most likely surpass it in maintenance cost and down time. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR

I heard that Kubotas are a good tractor, but their parts are expensive and hard to get. Also, they are harder to repair. I heard of one Kubota mechanic that had to split the tractor in half twice just to adjust the transmission linkage.

In the long run, you are better off buying a Deere since they will hold their value longer and they hold up better.

Also, green & yellow looks better than orange & blue.

Most, if almost all John Deere ag tractors are made in the US of A. I doubt any Kubota's are made in the US.

Well I took a tour of the JD plant in Waterloo, IA a couple of years ago and seen some big green machines which looked like tractors being assembled. They told us the smaller agriculture units were made in Germany and the big ones (sorry I don't remember the models) were made in the US.

They have a 48 acre plant for assembly, a foundry, and an engine assembly plant all in Waterloo. You have to make a reservation for the tours but are quite interesting to see.

Guess you win this round.

The 7000, 8000 and 9000 series Deeres are all made in Waterloo, while the 5000 and 6000 series are built in Germany. I'm not sure about the 4000 series tractors though, but for some reason Georgia caomes to mind.
