My friction washers have worn out-Ma Deere says they don't make them any more, but have a $31 alternative--Has anyone found a material that they can be made from? Its a fibrous material, somewhat like a really thin clutch disc. THanks.

I fixed this same trouble on my 70D by using an epoxy glue (like JB weld) to glue brake lining material to the assembly. Many trucks & busses used a band brake around a drum on the drive shaft just outside the transmissions. The lining material for those band brakes works GREAT! That was a good 15 years back & the 70's throttle still stays right where I put it. I doubt you'll find it at an Auto Zone but a good shop that's been 'round for a while would likely have some of it. Hope this helps.

I saw someone posts your answer some time back but don't remember what they said to use. You might try the archive thing. You might try a hard thick gasket material. Good luck.
