2 weeks ago at work, one of our haul truck drivers ran over and flattened a new trailer mounted compressor. This unit had less than 350 hrs on it. Low and behold, down deep in that flattened sheetmetal was a robust JD engine. Powertech, 4.5 liter, diesel, se#4045d04968, model #4045df150, 85 hp, 1998 EPA reg.
Other than a flattened alternator, broken motor mounts, crunched pulleys and idlers, crooked pan and valve cover, this thing could be rejuvenated. What is a unit like this worth?????Andymz

I don't know what the engine is worth.. but shouldn't take much to get it fixed.... The 4.5 can be rated to a lot more HP then U listed.. but different pumps and turbos can really add on the Hp too... and when the HP is increased other things are changed too.. like rods, pistons.. blance shafts.. but on the outside they look the same.. You should be able to get parts at either a Deere Ag or Construction Dealer.. the pan is just a thin light pan.. so shouldn't be too expensive.. good luck on the engine.. she should be a dany... (Even if I don't like 4 cylinders.. they are good engines.. especially the new power tech engines...) Later.
