Wishful thought: Do you have to drain all the hydraulic oil to change the transmission filter and suction screen?
I have a 3 pt that sometimes will not raise. I saw the earlier discussions on the check valve repair for the transmission on early 4020 models. I have a 1969, S/N about 208,000. Is mine different or is the same fix valid?

You dont have to drain the transmission to change the filter, BUT you do if you want to remove the suction screen. You can drain the case by removing the plug that holds in the screen. You have a late model 4020 if it is a 69 model. Your hydraulic controls are at the right side of the seat on a late model. If you are looking for drivetrain damage you are better off checking the sump screen than the filter.

the 4020 holds about 10 gals of hyd. oil and when you pull the screen you better be ready to catch all 10 of it.when I do this I pull the plug and screen as fast as I can then put the plug back in.but its just as easy to drain all the fluid.

Nope. Put a pail under it and use a 3/4 wrench. only a little oil will come out. Check for filings and cut old filter apart to see if you should look for bigger problems.
