I've recently purchased a JD 5105. The tractor is equipped with dual hydraulic valves (SVC's) to control remote cylinders. According to the owners manual one valve has a float position and the other has a "regenerative position." I understand the float. I don't understand the term "regenerative position." Could someone please explain this term to me? Thanks.

Question: Model 1050 Serial # 1050s021925, I replaced the stock hydraulic pump 11cm 3 (.68cu") with a Haldex Barenes pump (.97cu") to compensate for the loss of gallonage do to adding a John Deere power steering kit. This brought the loader speed back to orginal. My problem is when the tractor hydraulics system has no load on it (i.e. not moving the steering or running the loader) the pump cavitates because it cannot suck enough oil past the J.D. spin on the filter # RE27284. I know this because I removed the filter from the system and I did not get cavitation. Can you tell me of a filter that will flow more oil or would putting two of the filters in parallel (not series) give me the increased flow I need. Thank you for any help you may be able to offer or a phone # I may reach you at this would be very helpful. Thanks, Steve

This response may be outdated, but I just came across this post, while searching the internet for john deere filtration applications. There is an 8" version of the same filter available, maybe not through John Deere though. The pressure drop should be much lower across a longer element.

If anyone else has this problem, the longer replacement is available as a Fluid Element Part # 7400-8-25UM, on www.fluidelement.com. This would be a high performance microglass element. Be sure to check for clearance for a longer filter.

We've also got the RE27284 direct replacement available in our John Deere replacements section of the online catalog.

A regenerative circuit is one in which part of the output flow is added to the input flow to enhance some aspect of its performance. As an example if your 5105 feeds some of the oil coming out of a cylinder back to the input side of the same cylinder it increases is it speed of stroke while at the same time it loses some of it power due to not having full pressure across the cylinder.
