The PTO shaft on my JD730 I recently purchased spins whether the foot operated PTO lever is engaged or disengaged. Could something be out of adjustment in the PTO clutch? Any assistance is appreciated.

JOE; YOU NEED TO GET A OM WHICH WILL TELL YOU HOW TO ADJUST THE CLUTCH.THERE IS A PTO BRAKE IN THE SYSTEM THAT SHOULD STOP THE SHAFT.ALSO CHECK THE OIL IN THE HOUSING.IT SHOULD BE A 10 WEIGHT OIL.IF THE OIL IS VERY DARK AND THICK,THE SEAL BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION AND THE PTO CASE COULD BE LEAKING CAUSING THE PTO OIL TO BE DELUTED WITH 90 WEIGHT OIL WHICH WILL CAUSE THE CLUTCH DISKS TO DRAG. GOOD LUCK
