More than likely water/moisture has accumulated in the transmission oil. This is the only thing that will cause the brake pads to "fluff off".It's expensive to repair....

Sir, as a service technician for a dealership in western Kansas, I have seen a lot of these.

First is this a Quad-Range tranny or a powershift?

Second, like posted before, pull the sump screen and take a look at it, you can pull the screen with out draining the tranny of oil if you take your shop vac and tape the hose to the trans oil filler neck, that will provide enough suction to keep the oil in the tranny while you have your screen out.

If the screen is plugged with brass colored flakes and a black material with that is fiberous like asbestos, then you have brake troubles, the pads are shot. If its silver metal flakes, you have a bearing or gear comming apart, get that fixed asap. The key thing here is the trans pump gets its oil from this screen and if its plugged up, you can cash the tranny in quickly.

If its a powershift tranny, and the material in the screen is a brown hard substance, then its powerpack clutch facings that are comming off, thats bad too.

Fire me an email if ya need more help

Brendon

Could be the brakes. If they go bad they will eat up the disks and plug the filer.

Need to know what trans. is in this unit.but, it sounds to me that the screen in the rear end is either missing or broken.the screen is located behind a large plug just forward and below the rearaxle housing on the left side of the tractor.the screen is about 1 1/4 dia.and 12 inches long.pull the plug out and reach in with two fingers and pull screen out, then drain rest of oil out, about 15 gals.watch for filings in oil and post back what you find.brass filings are an indication of wear or trouble in the clutches,I ,once, had to clean a paper towel out out of the screen and rear end.

The next time this happens remove the filter and cut it open to see what the material is that it is capturing. The first thing that comes to mind is brakes.

Thanks To all who posted advice, Brandon appreciated your advice on basic diagnosis. Sounds like this unit is having a brake /clutch repair coming up. Andy
