G timing with hyd.pump-help

Got a styled G with a power steering hyd. pump mounted between gov. and mag. With the mag. set at full advance the impulse trips with the mark on the flywheel at about 30 degrees retarded. Any idea how to fis this? The tractor runs OK but is hard starting.

John, to see if your governor is timed to your camshaft properly, turn the flywheel until the slots on it are horizontal (the impulse mark will be horizontal as well, and lined up). With the magneto off, the drive slot should be horizontal (or very close to it). Unless someone has been messing with the index marks for the lag angle of the mag (which once set should be left alone) it's likely that your governor is out of time. Hope this helps. Mike

John my son and I have a GM that does the same thing but it starts pretty good. We've thought about moving the governor gear to cam gear one tooth,we don this on an unstyled B and it worked.On the "G" we put a timing light on it and its firing at 4 o'clock,but if you just roll the flywheel over the mag. will trip right on L.H.Impulse and case marks align. John T. had a comentary on this the other day,but was clear as mud to me. Sounds like we both need to talk to him maybe he will go over the mag. spill one more time. later Gman

Thanks fellas for all the suggestions. I was able to locate and fix the problem today. The coupler on the governor side of the hyd. pump was worn badly--enough to allow the timing to be off about 25 degrees. I nickle welded the worn area and worked it down to normal and everything works fine now.
