I have a '42 B since the winter it starts good but will not idle without 1/2 choke. You can play with the idle needle all you like and doesn't change a thing. I have removed carb and cleaned all ports and channels but no better. Any suggestions?

clooney and DougS are right. I have found that 3 times is a charm on these carbs! Seems as though you manage to miss 1 little thing! clooney saved me a lot of unessesary work last fall on a '52 B that I had cleaned twice. Good luck- JIM

Robert, you will have to re-clean the idle passages to get that carb to work correctly. There is a little passage on the bottom of the idle screw well that sometimes rusts shut. You will have to look very closely to find it, either drill it open or try to run a piece of stiff wire through it. There are also little holes in the side of the throttle bore that tend to plug up, they are in the side of the throttle bore on either side of the throttle plate, you will probably have to remove the throttle plate to see them. Click on the "IDLE CIRCUIT" link below to view passages.

If I said it once, I have said it 100 times, your carb is dirty! Anytime you have to use the choke to make these old machines idle, and twisting the idle adjustment just does not do a thing, you have not done your housekeeping in those small ports and passageways in the carb. Go back and do it again, and I mean more than B12 Chemtool and compressed air. This calls for small wire probes and small drills. Remove all plugs and get to scrubbing! Doug in Tx
