I have gone thru a 1946 'A' carburetor several times but am not yet satisfied with it. The tractor was recovered after several? years outdoors and was in fair condition. I read somewhere that putting the shell in a hydrochloric acid solution for thirty minutes would clean rust out that carb cleaner wouldn't.
Comments.
Thanks

L,hydrochloric acid would indeed remove the rust but would also enlarge the passages & probably erode the threads & shaft bores. Your best bet is to remove the brass plugs and use a wire or the correct drill bits to clean the passages out. If you tell us what the carb is doing maybe we can point you to the correct passage to clean out.

Admit you are lost and unsure and send the carburetor to Roberts Carburetor Repair in Spencer Iowa (712) 262-5311. I gave up on mine and he was able to work miracles on my Carb. I'll admit it was not cheap but my sweat and swear words are darn expensive.
