If a tractor(fuel type=gas) smokes under load, could it be a stuck ring, carb adjustment etc...??

If its blue smoke under heavy load its probably bad or broke or worn out rings. (Do a compression check, if good and still blue smoke and valve guides arent bad, it may be a bad oil ring) If its bad blue when u first start or are coasting downhill at carb throttle at idle (high vacuum) it may be sucking oil past the valve guides. If its black under load the carb power jet may be too rich. If its way too much white smoke, it may be a bad head gasket or cracked head. This isnt all possibilities, but is a atart anyway. Courtland, black smoke indicates a rich fuel mixture. You didn't say what model J.D. you have so I can't recommend a carb. adjustment procedure. Some general recommendations are check ignition timing, carb. "load needle" adjustment & formost check for a restricted intake system ( try running it without the air cleaner bottom cup). You might want to put new fuel in it if the gasoline or? is more then a few months old. Let us know what you have & you will get some good recommendations from the people on this board.
