We had ower show and pull this weekend and there two John Deere A there like mine (1944) all stock. they could out pull me three times as far. the only difference i could see was the other two both had GAS manafolds and mine still has the one that came out on it, a kerasine manafold. does a gas manafold help that much or could there be something wrong somewhere other than the manafold?
Ome man said he thought that my govener was not working right. Got to fix it, Gene

It would not hurt to put a gas manifold on it,but it should not make as much difference as you are talking.Check to make sure the carburator is opening all the way and not hanging on anything. My old G had a cotter pin holding it from opening up all the way.

Texas Red, dont get me wrong with this, aint trying to stir trouble, the tractors may have been stock, the new manifold will add just a little, tire size will make a difference. cast wheels or pressed steel also make a difference. did the others spin out or power out? your govener very well could have been a factor, but if the others have been overhauled, bored, the stock 44 pistons aint avalible, you have to use ones for serial # 58,000, sumthing and up, they are 3/4 inch longer from the wrist pin up, and add quite a punch to the old As. and are concidered stock parts?. just my two cents worth.
