Went to a pull yesterday. Was impressed with an A JD. I am guessing he was pulling with 1/2 throttle or less in 2 gear. I had always supposed you should go full throttle. What are some of the best techniques to use in successful pulling??

Why not pull? Tractors were made for working. I guess you would reather have them hauled to a scrap yard or left to rust away in a barn lot or hedge row somewhere.

lc, I'm no puller, but the pulls I have attended have been great. The JD's I've seen start out with some throttle and then when the weight gets tough, they ease the throttle back and let the torque do the work. I saw an 820 and a M just barely idle. I was told this was too keep from spinning tires. They are just like that energizer bunny, keep going and going and going. The dangest thing was a 6030 turbo with some doctoring. In an exibition pull. He pulled the full weight slap out the other end. Must of been running 20 mph. The sled looked like a rope dangling behind a truck.

I was at the Union City Pull (Spring Heritage Days). Several of the JD's you seen pull had some work done to them. Some of them had very extensive (Expensive) work done to them.

Pull was in Union City Tn. Tractors for most part looked regular. Its hard to tell from stands just exactly techniques used, but it appears that most lost traction before losing power. I could tell that some added throtle as they moved along.

What did you think of that unstyled G?He had to have been poked and stroked.I thought he was going to drive around the parking lot with the sled.I know of one stock G that was there and for 38 horsepower he pulled as far as a 400 Farmall that is supposed to have 52 horse. One guy had so much stroke in his A JD he had to remove part of the casing on the inside the crankcase so his rods wouldn't hit,and after running it he had to drain oil from the trans and put back into the engine. One of the Oliver 77's had a power unit engine in it that was said to have almost 100 horsepower. It was a good pull wasn't it?

I had to leave before it was over, but thouroughly enjoyed it. I didn't see some of the heavier class pull, but for sure want to go back next year.
