Have a chance to buy a 47 A for salvage. It has stamped wheels, Good rear tires, 14.7 X 38 but not a matched set. Round spoke front wheels, hand start, block and head are bad and no it is not a Heisler. Tractor is complete with the head and block removed. They are asking $500.00. What do you think?

John---consider where it is located. Obviously, buying it close to home is beneficial and can be worth many pesos in hauling costs.

There is salvage yard south of me in Burlington, KS that has several complete A's that he's asking between $125 to $300 apiece for. They range in conditions of looks like that haven't ever ran to just needs some TLC. I bought my 43 A from him, that turned out to need a sleeve because of a pin hole in the cylinder wall, for $500. At the time it ran good and only needed the idle passages cleaned and a new tire, other then that it was field ready.

I double checked the serial number and you are correct, it is a 1943 model. SN# 525268 Thanks for the advice, I will make a low offer and see if it will fly.

I have a freind that just bought a running A on a sale for $900.00 and even had a square tube wide front ,around here the A you discribed would bring around a $100.00 .

John, I hope you don't think I'm trying to throw cold water on your plans, but around here (northeast Missouri) an A like that with a bad block and head would go for less, unless it has a good, uncut hood and a good carburetor and magneto, etc. I would guess the carburetor is probably bad, too. Are you sure the wheels aren't cut-offs? And with hand start (and the spoke wheels) it is more than likely older than a '47. Unless you need some of the parts off of this tractor, do this with your eyes open. Just my humble opinion, worth exactly what it costs..... :-) Hope this helps. Mike

John, that is a good buy on a parts tractor. Unless it has a special s/n or some other special value to you it will probably cost you more to repair than you can buy a good running "A" for though. If the ft. wheels are in good shape they are worth almost the asking price of the tractor.

I don't know about the front wheel value, but at 500 you can part it and do ok. Still if I was buying it, while I'd give 500 for it as long as I had a few parts sold before I bought it, I think you are on the the high end of price range for a parts tractor that has major medical wrong with it. My 2 cents worth , Mike
