I am cleaning my carb for a JD A because i can not get it to idle and I had to have one of the brass screws drilled out, the one on the stem in the bowel. Well I am either blind or stupid,,,but I can not find the purpose the chamber behind that screw. There is a screw on the top next to the idle screw, and if you run a wire through it from the top, it will come out at the bottom where this screw is located. But I am at a loss why this shaft was drilled. There is no connection between this shaft and the idle screw shaft that is on the other side of the stem. I looked in that chamber where i removed the screw thinking i would find a hole into the idle shaft, but nothing. In summary,,,what is the purpose in drilling that shaft all the way into the stem?

Where the plug hole is there is a small orfice drilled through the stem into the chamber around the nozzle. This is the secret hole they talk about, they will rust shut and if you don't know it is there you wouldn't know it, its about the size of pencil lead

Charlie, that is a little passage goes through into the fuel mix area. It is where the air from the bowl vent enters the fuel to break it up finer. It allows air to come down & mix with the fuel before it enters the jet. I will send you a picture later tonight.
