Mark is right, it's not a very bad job at all to replace the shim gasket, but be very carefull to get the oil pump shaft and coupling all connected correctly. If the little coupling isn't connected right your oil pump won't turn and if it happens to get loose in the crankcase could cause serious problems.

There is a shim gasket on the bottom of the oil pump under the plate with 4 bolts. That gasket normally blows out and causes the oil leak you are talking about. The gasket is available from John Deere. The part # is B246R.Remove the 4-5/16th inch bolts on the plate and you can replace the gasket. You will want to be careful as the oil pump gears will drop when the plate is removed. Will probably need to remove the crankcase cover to align the oil pump shaft to the coupler when pushing the shaft back up.Maybe need a good friend to help unless you have extra long arms. Not too tough of a job though.
