I am presently working on the dash and battery bracket and have everything removed. While the crankcase cover is easy to get to I would like to check and adjust the oil preasure if needed. My problem is I dont have a hand crank, but I do have the resources to make one. I need the overall length and the length the crank engaging shaft protrudes beyond the cross dowel. I don't want to engage the flywheel to deeply and have the crank catch on me. This happened to me once on our 14T self powered baler due to rust inside the crank. Ouch! If someone could measure a JD crank and give me the sizes I would greatly appreciate it. I recently purchased an exaust pipe to go out one of my cellar windows so I can run the tractor. I am very anxious to spend time just watching it run for stress relief. Thank you

From a couple of e-mails I received I learned that the steering wheel is used with the stub shaft to turn the flywheel. I saw the shaft in the parts book but didn't know it used the steering wheel. Its so simple now. Since I presently have the steering wheel off I'm thinking of adding a 7/8 thread and a nut behind the wheel to break the taper loose. This will be handy next time the battery is dead and I'm at the bottom of the hill.
Thank you all for your help
