I have a 420 crawler with the serial # plate gone. Is there any other way to find out the age of this machine?

The 420's generally came in three "flavors", depending (roughly) one whether it was the first, second, or third year. Frist year was all green paint and a straight steering wheel. Second year went to the yellow and green paint scheme, and third year went to a slant steering wheel. Of course, the wheel won't apply to a crawler, but the dash might.

I'm no crawler expert, so I don't really know how these changes translate over to the crawler.

Your bet bet would be to purchase the parts catalog by calling Deere at 1-800-522-7448, then look for parts that changed from serial range to serial range and see how it compares to yours.

I did the same thing with my 40U with no tag. You'd be surprised what you can find out.

I remember the early 420s had an all green paint scheme, but I don't remember when the paint scheme changed.

Dave; According to my information the 420c was built in 1956 - 1957 - and 1958. Does yours have 4 rollers or 5 rollers? Tugboat
