Is the Sabre 2148 an older JD Garden tractor repackaged?

I have heard there are similarities between the JD GT series and the Sabre 2148. Does anyone know the differences. I would also be interested in knowing if the JD LT166 or the Sabre Garden tractor would be a better buy. The dealer says the JD LT is better but doesn't know specifically why. When I called JD customer service, they could not give me any good answers and said that technical service would not respond with specific information.

Don't expect the JD quality in the Sabre, however. These are made to compete with mowers like the MTD, Yard Man, etc., so you will find the machines much more like those than any genuine John Deere. My local dealer says he wishes they skipped the "by John Deere" on the models and sold them only as Sabre, because people expect more than what they get. My advice, go out and buy a used LX 178 or LX 188, they are worth every penney.

The Sabre is a line built by John Deere in order to be able to compete with the mass market lawn tractors, such as MTD, Murray, etc. It is also sold by some of the Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. type stores.

The Sabre and the Scott's mowers are one and the same. There might be some that doubt that, but I saw them side-by-side at Deere's corporate headquarters display area last summer.

The difference in quality is probably real - the price of the Sabre is for competition against the mass market mowers. Hopefully the JD is worth the extra money.
