Just picked up a 3020-Diesel Sat, owner says it started to make engine noise and they shut it down and parked it, yeah sure, run it till it stopped on its own. Crankshaft is broken into behind #2 rod and Cam gear is broke off camshaft. Belive it or not pistons and vavles are good, Are 3020's noted for breaking cranks?? Don't have a clue how they could have broken the crank, anyone with ideas, besides I should of stayed with 2 cyl's.
Question: anyone have a short block they want to sell?? engine ser# 13E79148- Block Casting #R32020R
Really think this could be a good tractor has wide front,3 point, duel outlets, PS trans, diff lock and front and rear PTO.
Any kind of info will be greatly appreciated.
Serial num is a strange one compared to the listings-SNT113P079092R. nothing on the tag states this is a 3020, only side panels have 3020 decals. this is a brass tag too, has some yellow under green in places. Bob

My son is in about the same boat as you except with a 3010. After market cranks are about $800 to $1000, then add line bore, bearings, gaskets, ect.adds up in a hurry. I found a 3300D combine that can be bought right, trying to find out if it is the same block or will fit, any ideas?

3300 prob. has either a 219 or 329 engine. 3010/3020 engine was never used on a combine, to my knowledge.

Without knowing how much you paid for it, it's hard to say, but it's worth fixing, for sure. Used cranks are nonexistent, but there's new aftermarket ones available at WAY less than JD wants. Short blocks are hard to come by, simply because they have to have a crank in them. The 3020 was one of the best, they don't make anything that truly replaces them. By the serial #, it appears to be a PowerShift, which is another plus.

Its very common for 3010 an 3020 diesel's to break cranks .One of the major reasons that they break crank is the linebore in the block is bad.

Check the balancer box, something in it could have gone out and contributed to the breaking of the crank.

Your serial number states it's a 3020 the 113 in it tells the story.
