Is it very hard to slide the wheels in on a 70 JD,cause I've never done it.They do not look very rusty but it could be up in there.I was wanting a few pointers from those who have been there. Thanks Jack(TN).

Jack moving those wheels can be a pain in the neck. First Remove bolts that holds clamp on and put in threaded hole and remove clamp. Loosen bolts on the back side that holds the halves and uses jacking bolts to see if they will move,if they want move peck on head off jacking bolts with a three pound hammer,if you use any bigger hammer you will break the backside off wedges (been there done that). If wedges haven't moved where you can use the rack and pinion to move hub by this tme, I shoud have told you to be using a penatrating oil from the time you started.Get you a heavy piece of pipe (schedule 80 if you can find schedule 40 will work otherwise) three feet long 3 1/4 round split pipe 1/2 way thru and back about eight to ten in.or where the top half of pipe that you didn't cut away will rest on axle and against the edge of wedge, make sure you cut pipe back enough were it want hit end of axle, then get a twelve pd. sledge hammer and hit end of pipe till wedges back up enough where you can use the rack and pinion to move wheel, then clean up axle where wheel was setting. You might want to take wedges out and clean them up also, your option. Hope I didn't confuse you being so long winded, but the pipe works Later Gman

Hey Gman,I got lucky on my 1952 model G and they moved very easy, but this 70 is completly different. It has a smooth round axle with teeth on one side of it.I have sprayed oil on them for a while now but I havn't tried to move them yet.Thanks.
