The fellow I bought my place from doesn't want to pay to haul a 3010 out right now. Says I'm welcome to use it in exchange for leaving it on the property for a year or so.

It's been sitting for 9 or 10 months now, and part of that is Canadian winter.

Tried to start it yesterday, no luck.
Batteries dead. Tried to jump it with the truck, just a little ticking.

Took the batteries off, and put jumper cables from two trucks on either side. Off side to the cables, starter side directly to the starter. Turned over very, very weakly, no catch or even a hint of firing up. Cables got warm, so I assume we were drawing power.

Got a full charge into one battery, the other has a dead cell. These batteries are rated at 1000 CCA. How important is this?

Don't want to invest too much money in a tractor that might be gone in a few months.

Thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated.

The 3010 originally came with a 24 volt starter, the easiest way to tell the differance is by where the cables are located on the starter. If both + cables hook to the solenoid then its probably 12 volt.however,if one cable hooks to the solenoid and the other hooks to the back of the starter then its 24volt.I would suggest if its 12 volt that when using the jumpers you hook the + cables to the starter and the - cable to the frame of the tractor. the 1000CCa batterys should be ample to spin it over.A weak 3010 will need good cranking speed to start up

Forget to mention... this is a 3010 Dsl. I'm assuming it's a 12 volt system, as that's what's stamped on what I'm sure is a replacement starter.
