We need to replace the leather cup that is inside the powertrol unit on a J.D. G -- it's either a 1947 or 1948. Our local Deere dealers say the part is no longer available from John Deere; one dealer said they knew of a source back in Amish country, but that source has not come through. Does anyone know if someone is making them? Thanks!

Guys, thanks for the info. This retrofit you've mentioned--changing the piston--is probably what we're going to do. Hubby couldn't believe that no one at the J.D. dealerships had suggested it; I told him he's been talking to the wrong people--he needs to talk to real old-tractor guys (not real old tractor guys)!

the B John Deere had a changeowever from the leather to the neopreme....You might check the parts book as I would say Deere also changed these.

I just replaced my cup and spacer on my G Part F891R and F890R Deere had both. I assume you are talking about power lift piston not the remote cylinder.

John:

I think he's looking for the F 310 R leather that was used with the F 309 R piston used in S/N's 26000-39434.

If he could find a AF 2135 R (F 928 R) piston, which was used on S/N 39435 and up, he could use those parts.

K:

What you need is called a "U" cup, or leather. They are likely now made from neoprene. I have in my factory purchasing past life got them through a quality hydraulic supply house. If you have your cylinder inside diameter and the thickness that your present leather is, they will be able to order one for you that will fit. You may have to punch the holes for your retainmer bolts.

A modern seal will work fine and probably out last the original style rawhide.

Do a "Google" search on the internet and you'll have some sources pop up.
