Sounds to me that Shorty is right. If it was a float then you would be Flooding or it will run at an Idle and not the top end. If it will not run unless the choke is on then you have a fuel restriction. It might be in the passages it the carb. But I am with Shorty, You have a fuel restriction. Check you screen in the Sediment bowl, or see if the outlet to the sediment bowl is not stopped up some.

I may be way off, but I'm going to say the tractor has a nearly plugged gas line, or the air cleaner bowl is full of water and oil and not letting it breath. I'd really like to know what it finally takes to fix this tractor.

Check the float setting...your manual will have the correct setting.

Sounds like a bad needle/seat. It runs until it burns fuel out of bowl. They are about 20 bucks from Deere, but I have only seen 1 that needed to be replaced, mainly just need to be cleaned. I have one if you can't find 1. Mike

I would suggest you take that carb apart and clean it real well. CT has kits for it which will do a fine job. Some of those MS carbs have very small orfices which are difficult to clean but usually effect the idle. You may also have a dirty fuel filter.clogged line etc. Open the drain on the carb and see if fuel flows freely.

I am with the other guys on rebuilding the carb. The float setting should be about 1/2 inch from the top of the float to the top of the bowl. Sometimes you have to make the gap between 3/8 and 1/2 so that it will pull enough fuel to keep it going. A good way to clean the orfices out is to soak everything in muratic acid. It will get in the small places. New plugs wouldnt hurt either. get some autolite 388's, they burn a lil more hotter and dont foul at as bad.
