My neighbor was given a 620 JD which had not been operated since 1983!! So we have begun a massive attempt to rebuild this monster and get her running by summer's end. Our main problem is frozen pistons in the block. We have the block completely removed from the engine and have soaked it in several fluids in hopes of freeing the aluminum pistons (trans fluid, WD40, coke, etc). So far no avail! Does anyone out there have any suggestions? Thanks.

The best penetrating lubricant I have used is
brake fluid. Clean up is easy as water will
dissolve it. The press ideas is probably the
best if penetrating fluids do not work.

John take you a oak or osage orange block of wood position block where it is against something pretty firm take block of osage orange place on top of piston, then reach over and get a nice 16 lb. sledge hammer and slap the osage orange a few sharp blows and watch that piston fly out the back of cylinder, this works just great on my "G"s and rather inexpensive, works a little better if you got a young stough son around to swing that sledge. Put it in a 20 ton or more press and push them out from the top down.I tried everything else, soakin and heating, banging and nothing else worked. When the pistons did come loose it woke me up and shook everything that wasn't bolted to the press onto the floor.Stuck pistons are lots of fun, good luck.

With the block removed try soaking the piston with some KROIL. It worked to free the pistons that were stuck in my A. Does any of the fluid seep down past the pistons when you soak it?
