410 backhoe loader weak hydraulics???????

My neighbor has a 410 John Deere backhoe loader and the hydraulics are weak. The outriggers push back when a big load is lifted with the bucker. The backhoe bucket will try to open up when the crowd is pulled in.It gets so weak when warmed that the boom will hardly raise a bucket of dirt. I was wondering is maybe there is something wrong with the stroke unloading valve or some other pressure relief valve. If the croud is moved from full open to full closed it seems to load the engine slightly and as soon as the maximum stroke is reached it unloads completely.
Can any of you guys tell me what might be the problem? The outrigger cylinders have both been repacked and it did not help.

Please Email me if you can help me. I don't come to the John Deere page often.

Thanks ZANE

After running it does the oil look aerated ??? Check the dipstick before starting it (after its been sitting awhile) and then when the problems appear...It will look foamy if aerated....If it is, its usually due to the suction sfcreen being plugged with "junk" built up over the years....to access it you have to remove the horizontal filter canister and that short hose and fitting that screw into the side of the bottom of the transmission case.. the screen is in there...its about a foot long and about an inch and 1/2 in diameter....drain the oil first as you will be wearing it if you don't...some thing cheap and easy to check first....Any other symptoms ???? any "chattering" felt when raising the loader or other function??
Also....this machine has a closed center hydraulic system and the engine will not lug down once the system pressure of 2300 psi is reached...as is the case when a cylinder is bottomed or reaches its full lifting capacity...

First make sure that your hydraulic lines from the pump and return are connected to the correct ports. You can get some of these sypmtoms if they are reversed. The control valve and pump don't know when the crowd is extended unless you are starving the pump for oil or the cylinder is swelled at the end of the stroke. Then look at the check balls in the control valve. As they wear, they can wander into strange places and cause things like the stabilizers backing off.

Kinda sounds like it has air in the system that is the only way for the cylinders to move if the packing is good like you say. Also there is a pressure regulator valve that might have a broken spring, but I would look for air bubbles in the hyd. tank that should be why the cylinders will move under pressure cause air will compress

I will check the filter screen and the control valves. What about the stroke unloading valve that is on the pump. Ever have any of these symptoms from it?

Ususally when there is a problem in the stroke control valve...it is a low pressure output from the pump that results....most of the time the orings in there get brittle with age. But it sounds like the oil is aerated by what you describe as a cushion type effect with the cylinders....there are several things trhat could cause this but as a rule I always try the cheapest and easiest things first !! (suction screen being plugged)...did you check the oil for air ???
