I just completed positioning the clutch disk on my 1946 Model "A" in an attempt to stop the excessive vibration. The good news is, it cured the vibration problem. The bad news is, the clutch disk has a fracture across the unweighted side. That side of the disk is the hollow side and the fracture can be seen on both the inside and outside machined surfaces. Is there a danger that this will fly apart ? If I replace it is there anything I need to look for in buying another used one ? I'm concerend about proper balance. Could one from another year, model "A" be used as long as the part numbers are the same ? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
I think you need to replace or repair the clutch driver for safety reasons. I'd be concerned about it breaking while using it and the broken pieces getting jammed up in it and not being able to disengage the clutch. Ken

Mike glad you got the vib. problem cured,on my G I have a cracked rotor I haven't been to concerned about it and I use it quit a bit. These old tractor only turn 1000 rpm so I don't sweat it to much,I am contemplating welding it those suckers are high. I beleive you can put it in mama oven @ 400 deg for about halve an hour, and a good 7018 or cast rod and then turn it down to true it up and your home free. later Gman

I assume you are talking about the driving disk which is splined to the crank and which drives the friction disks? If so, cracks in this are quite common. As long as the cracks are not through to the spline in the center there is no danger and no reason to replace it. They are costly and getting difficult to find. Most used ones have cracking also.
