There is a dozer/crawler near me that I am thinking about buying for the simple fact I think it looks neat. Pretty sad reason huh? Please forgive me for being a Molin man, but to try to get one of our crawlers, you had better have about $20K on you because there aren't any around. So, here I am. Well, it is a JD. It has a PTO shaft, a rather heavy swinging drawbar, yellow tracks (in good shape), an air cleaner that looks very simliar to a letter series Farmall (so I am gonna assume it is a Donaldson by its looks), a Marvel Shebler carb (looks like a TSX-97 or something that size), 4 forward speed/1 reverse, 2 cylinder, distributor, and all 3 gauges are about 75%. The hood is there and in decent shape because it is really thick material, but the grill is gone. The only numbers I could get off of it were from underneath the starter on the left side of the transmission case in front of the "cockpit," M81T and 1/6D. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. I know it has sat for the past 3 yrs since I've been in town, but it is a nice clean unit. It does of the blade on the front with 2 raise/lower cylinders on it, no "angle movement." Once again, thanks.

You can also check out my MC at the page below. The MC's had a press steel (not cast) pad on the track.

Aaron, I am going to assume that it has a vertical 2 cyl. engine with a foot operated clutch. The M81T casting # was first used on the MC series tractors although it may have been used on later series tractors such as the 40, 420, and 430. I can check on this and the carb. # when I get to work tomorrow, if I have a chance. How many lower rollers are on the track? Does it have a 3pt. hitch? If it still has a serial # plate it would be located under the ignition/light switch. If it had a grille we could find out that way also. Grilles for these tractors are very expensive if you can find one. The tractor has quite a bit of value whether as a project or as a finished item. Hope this is of some help.

According to the parts manuals, the center frame casting M61T was used only on the M tractors. The 40's on up had a slightly modified version and a different number.

The Serial name plate should be on the the left side of the unit between the side frame and on the drive shaft housing. I am guessing here but it should have 3 rollers, ( short track with 28 segments.) The model MC and the Model 40 had a heavy swinging draw bar no 3 point hitch. The blade does not sound like the JD blade as it had only 1 cylinder either mounted interally between the tracks or externally on the right had side. The external cylinder was called a touch-O-matic cylinder and had pilot control stops on it. Oh by the way if you get the serial number you can look it up on this site and find out what year it was manufactured plus if any other are registered. My 40 is a short track and is there as well.

The 'M' series had their S/N plate on the dash. It was moved to the flywheel area on the 40 and stayed there until the end.

JD did make dual cylinder blades, the model 62 (manual angle) and model 64 (power angle). He says it isn't an angle model, so I also think it's not a JD blade.

The 40 was available with 3 & 4 roller tracks intitally, but the 5-roller was added later on prior to the 420 changeover.

My guess is that he's looking at a 40 or 420. By the time the 430 came out, there weren't any 3 rollers made and very few 4 rollers. Our little dozer was growing up (until it grew into the JD350 from the JD440).
