Hello, I have a early, 1935 open-fan shaft model A that I am about ready to start-up after 8 years of restoring it. I was told that I should hand-turn, with gas off, so as to prime the oil lines. I have done this and really can't see any indication of oil, in fact I pulled the oil filter housing and the oil filter & canister were dry. This model A has the oil pump in the side of case by the flywheel. Should I be able to hand turn and fill filter area with oil and/or see any indication of oil flowing ??? Any help is appreciated. Thank you, Gino

Gino, you might have to remove the cover on the external oil pump below the left hand main and pack it with grease. I had to do that on my 29 GP a few years ago to get it to prime. Have never had any trouble since. Good luck Mark.

Hi Gino, after overoauling my 35, I overfilled the crankcase to get it primed quicker. Just drained it back down some after it ran a little while. Good luck. Don

Whats your serial number on your "A". I to have a 35 openfan "A" and I'm trying to get a serial number list together for 35 openfans. There seems to be a lot less 35 than 34's. I only have 25 listed so far and several hundred 34'S. Good luck on your 35. Mine was in real good shape when I bought it. It has full rounds, perfect fan shaft no welds, New old style fenders it should look really nice when done. It was never abused not sure it every did much of anything but maybe some belt work. Its number is 413844. See Ya Mike

Congrats. Mike! Mine is not an open fanshaft. It's SN is 415547. It does have the trans. check plug on the RH side by the brake, and the fill hole in the transmission shift cover. It also has a flat back with the fill hole in it.
