what is the shaft that comes out of the front of the rear end for? it looks like a pto shaft Sorry this is on a 4010

Side mounted sickle bar mower. Pulley mounts to the PTO shaft and belts run to the mower. Thats what I have seen around here. (East Central Illinois)

In our part of the country the front PTO was used on 282-283 cotton strippers with baskets

I don't know for sure but I think on the 3010 and 4010 tractors the RPM is either 540 OR 1000 depending on which PTO stub you install on the BACK of the tractor. On the 3020 and 4020 they changed the gear train inside and the front PTO runs ONLY at 1000 RPM not matter which PTO stub is on the back of the tractor.

This is a 1000 rpm shaft.
