I was lissoning to my 37 last night trying to figure out why I just couldn't get it dialed in the way I would like for it to run when it dawned on me it sounded like I might have a sticking valve. The head had just been gone threw but I figured it wouldn't hurt to check the oil supply to the valve cover. With the engine stopped I removed the supply line and noticed it didn't look like any oil has been passing threw. I checked for a plugged line but it was clear, so I fastened the governor end back on and started the tractor, after ten minutes of running there was still no oil coming out the supply line. The oil gauge ( brand new ) shows medium oil pressure so I'am a little confused as to what to check next. I did take the crank case cover off and everthing appeared to be ok. Hope someone can advise what to look for next. thanks Mark

Mark, I had the same problem after installing new valves in my 38B and I believe they get even less oil to the tappets than an A. New valves are tight in their guides and I made the mistake of idling my tractor like two hours at the Ind. State Fair Parade. After shut down and a long wait I went to start it and it had NO COMPRESSION because the valves were stuck open. I now use one quart of Marvel Magic Mystery Oil in my crankcase and I no longer let it idle long periods and the problem has went away. Those tractors only get oil to the valves from that splashed around in the governor case and if working in a field at rated RPM as designed for, they are fine but now we pamper and parade and idle them and thats the outcome. Mark , Several years ago I had the same problem with a 1938 A. The only oil that your rocker assembly gets is by the oil being carried up the gears and dropped off in a small trough in side the governor housing. I had to remove the governor and clean out this trough. It had gummed up oil sludge caked in it. The oil line to the rocker assm. is not pressurized by the oil pump. Also make sure that the oiling line in the valve cover is clean and that the small drip holes are open. I hope this will help you.
