My 46 G doesn't like to start cold.Usualy it backfires and tries to run in reverse rotation for 2-3 seconds. I suspect the timing is to far advanced, yet rotating mag has no effect. I have the mag dead center now. Which way do you rotate mag to retard the timing? or isn't this my problem anyway? Thanks, Mike

Mike, you want to make sure the "impulse" is working. Can you hear the mag impulse snap when turning the flywheel over slowly? If it isn,t working it will fire the plugs about 26* early. You should time the mag to "snap" when the timing mark on the flywheel lines up with the timing mark on the case (cover).

Mike, usually reverse running at start is fast timing but other factors can contribute to it also. To advance the mag timing, rotate it CCW, to retard CW. Let us know Ol John T in Indiana

Mike take out flywheel side plug turn engine to TDC you can hear it when it comes up on compression,at this time check mark on flywheel and case and make sure they line up,at this time the Mag.lug should be slightly off horizontial position, cock the mag to where it is going to fire #1 and mount it on tractor aligning lugs, mag will be tilted to an awful position, but rotate mag till you hear it fire,at this time mag should be positioned correctly, the tighten bolts. If this doen't work get an IT Manuel and dig a little deeper Later Gman
