Can someone tell me what is the purpose of swept-back axles on the New Generation tractors. I have a 1530 with this arrangement and was wondering if there is an advantage in having the swept-back over the typical straight axle.

Makes a tractor with a loader more unstable, is what it does. Bad combination.

I have a 1520 with a loader on it, and it a a swept back front axle. Nothing unstable about it!!!!! !!!!! !!!

Then you're not exactly using it.

Look at it this way, the axle is set back further away than if it were a straight axle, therefore the rear tires come off of the ground a lot easier than if it were a straight axle.

Logically, this makes sense but I'm certain that many tractors with the swept-back axle was sold with loaders, and one can only hope that the operator uses good sense when attempting to pick up a load with their loader. That kind of goes with any loader/axle configuration, but having the front tires set back several inches would logically reduce it's load bearing capability. However, JD must have had some purpose in mind when they designed it. I'm just curious as to what it was. Obviously, it wasn't a big hit, because I haven't seen it on any of their tractors in the last 15 - 20 years.

I believe it gives you a tighter turning radius. Other than that I'm not sure.
