The 37 B I'm restoring had originally come with steel wheels, but my grandfather at some point changed it over to rubber, on rear cast wheels and front pressed steel wheels. I've gotten conflicting info online as to whether the current set-up was available in 1937...anyone know for sure? Thanks!

Larry,
The unsB had cast wheels with 10-spline cast-in hubs available starting at s/n 27435. The wheel had a casting number B695R, and used the B25R hub clamp. Cast wheels with bolt-in hubs were available from 187399 on, with wheel casting number A3149R and the 10-spline bolt-in hub casting number was B2187R. This cast wheel was also used on the styled A.

Pressed steel front wheels became available at 29631 and used a B918R cast hub. The earliest version of this wheel used 10 rivets to attach the rim to the wheel center and was used until mid-'38, when they went to a different (fluted) wheel center that used 8 rivets (2/flute). The last version of this wheel started in early '40, and used the same 8-rivet scheme, but now had 4 "slots" where the wheel center did not touch the rim. All three versions were non-reversible and not stamped with a part number.

Ricky,

Since my wheels have the cast-in hub, they must be the 695R (older)ones. The centers and rims have been cleaned and painted, but the hub clamps and related hardware are still 'original' (greasy, rusty).

If you're still interested in a trade, I could easily get them to Charlotte, NC. is that close enough to you?

If interested, give me your e-mail address and I'll send you pictures within a couple weeks.

Thanks, Larry

Ricky,
I'm in PA and am definitely interested...please note that my wheels have no rubber on them, and I haven't yet checked the casting #'s for originality. (The tractor's stored a couple hours away.) I'll get you pix as soon as I can.

Is there any way you can confirm that your steels would have been stock on a '37 (are there casting #'s) ? Thanks,
Larry

The John Deere Tractor Data Book by Lorry Dunning does not specifically say for the 37. But it does say the 38 to 40 came with the option of skeleton or flat rim steel spoke wheel. Indicating to me that your would have been round spoke.

The rear cast wheels were available for the 37 B. I think they are hard to find though. Pressed front wheels were a common option. I'm sure Duane Larson the wheel guru will chime in.
