I am overhauling my 4010 diesel and was just wondering who has the best overhaul kit? It has Deere pistons and liners in it but I am not satisfied with them.

Currently I"m restoring (total overhaul)of my 4010D and I went with a JD kit. Mainly because Deere pre-assemble the rings on the pistons and had them in the liners. All I had to do is push the pistons down far enough to get the pins and such in the pistons.

Personally....I only use Deere. Not only because of the above but because it gives me a piece of mind that should something go wrong, my dealership is nearby enough for me to address in person - - and they stand behind their product.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Hello Adam,
I use Reliance kits for JD. I have good luck with them. I think they make the parts for JD so you might not want my kit. but I can get you the parts you need.
Thanks Ed

Adam even if you bought them from Deere chances are they are now some after market supplier, that 4010 is 40 years old. Check this sites tractor parts annd your local machine shop for manufacturers of kits.

I just did a bearing roll on our '72 4020. We got the parts from JD since they we're as cheap as the aftermarket. The bearings supplied by JD we're manufactured by Federal Mogul as indicated by their logo which was stamped on the bearing shells. I would've preferred Clevite bearings but even through a jobber they we're more than OEM. Besides, Federal Mogul has a fair enough track record I guess....

I cant speak for the liner kits though, price it out though JD might surprise you. As for aftermarket, I've had good luck with Clevite engine kits in both small and large engines. Federal Mogul is out there too and is marketed by many different suppliers.

Good luck,

Glen
