Just wondering how many different power units that John Deere built over the years and where I could find information on these 2 cylinder engines. Thank you

There's at least another one. As a kid, we had a John Deere (Model 25, I think) pull-type combine. We had a "parts" combine for it that had a 2-cylinder engine to run it. My brother and I tore it apart one to see if we could get it running.

It was a big engine - verticle cylinders with the valves in the block. It had a magneto, because I remember my brother saying, "Here old this while I turn it over". YIKES! It put out quite a punch!

Unfortunately, there was a local hot-rod club that a friend of our Dad belonged to and they came and cleaned up a bunch of scrap iron to earn money - the engine went with them.

The only ones I know of are the W power unit, which used a D engine, and the LUC which used a L engine

Tim, Learned the old "Jag from the Mag" trick early in life also. This was from a Wico magneto on a 20 horse Clark oilfield single cylinder engine that my grandad had in a central power house. It pumped about 15 wells fom a central power with rod lines to each well. This was compliment of older cousin!! They say you can pick your friends....
Enjoyed reading about your learning experience.
