Brian the post below is probably better than my advice Ive never read instructions on setting those carbs in my life but have many JD';s and here is what I would do. On the idle jet, screw it down all the way closed then open it out one turn. On the power jet, do the same but open it about two turns. It should start there then you can tweak it in by ear and sight fairly easy. At idle, screw the idle jet closed till it starts to miss then open it about one quarter turn. On power jet, set throttle at full open throttle and open the power jet till she starts to richen and cut out with black smoke then close it down about half turn or so to where it runs smooth but doesnt cut out. Now, if youre idling and parading I keep both as lean as possible so you dont run rich or black foul the plugs. If youre going to pull it hard u may have to oepn the power jet another half to quarter turn. Be careful not to run too rich or you will foil plugs quickly. If its new overhauled be sure the timing is right and you have a good hot spark and be careful not to flood her. Ol John T in Indiana

If your running regular pump gas the load needle should be 3/4 to 1 turn open, the idle needle should be 1 and 1/2 to two turns open. If its a new motor give it a full chock till it pops or trys to start pull chock off and it should start if timing is correct. After its broke in try starting on about 3/4 chock if its timed right and eng's in good shape should start first pull every time. That empresses them at shows. Like you were told earlier by one of the other guys be careful not to flood it because you have no pitcocks on the older B's to judge how much fuel its getting. If you need more help email me!
Good luck
Mike
