anyone know of an aftermarket brake pad for the drum brakes on an unstyled A. Local deere dealer wants $120 for a set of 4 pads. Seems awful high

I just bought a set of linings for my 35A from deerely departed. They said the pads would not fit a 35. They were wrong. My part book called for part #AA4253R . Deerely Departed sells the set for $25. I took the new linings and my old shoes to my John Deere dealer and they riveted them on for me for free. Brakes work fine now. Deerely Departed 309-787-1432. By the way Yesterdays Tractor also sells the same linings for $28 and they sponsor this web site we like so much.

They've been that much money for years now.

Do what I did - I took my brake shoes to a truck repair shop and they installed new linings for 7 bucks a shoe.

120 bucks is ridiculous. Try 28 bucks. what a difference.

I ran into the same thing on my 36 B I thought I would put a new set on during the restoration but my local dealer gave me about the same price. I decided my brakes weren't as bad as I thought. I would like to know of a cheaper place than deere for linings.

That sounds really high have they went up that much ? maybe they priced shoes with lining instead of just lining ? There are aftermarket sources around maybe even this site ?

Mike,
I just bought a single shoe for my unstyled A without a lining for $90.00 from mother Deere. I didnt ask the price before ordering, so now it"s my baby.

Shoes have ALWAYS been high from Deere , but the lining kits were always reasonable before.

Ten or so years ago, I bought several sets of shoes from Deere for 2 unstyled As I restored. They didn't seem too high. 4 years ago I checked into a set for a early model B, at that time I could buy the complete set of shoes (with linings) cheaper than 2 bare shoes. Now this year the price from them really soared to almost $400 for a set of shoes with linings. I sent all four to a brake lining shop in Phoenix. Cost me less that $60 shipping included to get them back. Only problem is that you need to specify the thickness of the lining, so be sure to do some research before sending them in. Or, send the drums with them to get the exact fit. Jerry
