How do you know it"s electronic ignition? As others have stated, it"s not the way to save money if you just jump in and try things without knowing for sure what you are doing. The cost of the proper manual will far-and-away be a good investment. If you know it"s not charging, then you had to have it running to figure that out and to get it to run the switch was (I assume) in the I position so that would tell you something I=ignition

Have you had it running since you switched the battery polarities? If you have, then you know it DOESN"T have electronic ignition, since as others have said the electronics would be damaged by polarity reversal.

Factory was + chassis return. Pertronix makes modules in both - and + chassis versions. As previously stated. #1 If in driving in new territory without a roadmap. You will waste time, money and resources. Educated guesses on the tractors are going to cost you extra as well.1-800-522-7448. #2 By trying both polarities it's guarantied you made the smoke leak out of the electronics.

If you plan on making this tractor right and want to make your time worth while then I would suggest getting a book on it. A John Deeere service manual will have the electrical diagram you need for reference. It is a great way to learn about the ins and outs of your 70. A lot of damage can be done to existing parts without a good reference manual. Ask me how I know... B is for bright and D is for dim if I remember correctly.

WELL, if you REALLY have tried both ground polarities, so much for the electronic ignition module!

That (and the alternator, if used) are the tow determining factors as to what the ground polarity needs to be.
