I have a 1941 John Deere B with the Wico C magneto. When I take the mag off, the nut that holds the impulse drive cup is usually off. The threads on the rotor are stipped. This is the rotor itself, and not the rotor button. Any ideas on where to get this? I've tooled around on a few websites and have had no luck.

Thanks

go to eBay and buy a used mag with all the parts you need.

Shade tree Idea, put nut in vise and egg shape just a little bit, turn on shaft and spot weld. Not out anything. let us know what happens. Thanks Doug

Check with Chicago Magneto, they have a large stock of various parts and give good service at a reasonable price.

Sorry, my idea was not worth two cents, as the drive cup rotates on the nut, and it would be sloppy without it.

Maybe you could use it without the nut. As long as the mag is in place, the drive cup can not move as it is jammed between the magneto and the governor axle drive. It will only came off if you remove the magneto which you should not need to do very often. Idle thought worth maybe 2 cents.

Jon,
In my experience, you'll have to find another magnetic rotor if the threads are stripped to the point the nut will not hold. There is too much shock on the rotor during the impulsing mode for JBWeld or some such to hold. A NOS C rotor sold on eBay recently 330222792209 and brought $26.00.

Your best bet would be to find an old Wico C477 or C1042 junk magneto at a swap meet or somewhere and take the rotor out. Should not be too hard to find, and replacing it is straightforward - just lay parts out as you take them off so you get them back the same - lots of spacers, etc.

The rotor magnetic material is Nipermag, not Alnico, so it wouldn't hurt to find a way to charge the rotor immediately prior to placing it in the magneto case.

just found one on Robert's Carb site. $116! WOW! any shade tree ideas on how to fix this? don't know if Loc-Tite will take with bad threads. could I put some JB weld on it and then re-cut the threads? Any ideas would be great. thanks

Loctite makes a product for loose fits and another for worn threads.
