Duane is right as for the Wico being economical to repair. Parts are readily available new for it and the complete mag has been available new for some time again. The other mags can cost you a lot more as the FM mag caps are about $85 new now. An original Splitdorf will set you back a lot more than that and parts are hard to find or have to be made. Bosch parts for the mags used on JD are harder to find yet. They have most of the parts you would need for the Wico in OKC or I would have them too. Good luck.

KS,
Not sure what happened to your magneto, but the Wico 477 is about the best and cheapest mag you can put on your D, both initial cost and repair cost. But to answer your question, you can use a Fairbanks Morse FMJ2B6D, FMX2B6D (both with long lug UB35 coupler), Edison Splitdorf CD Spec 0010, and if you want a really expensive mag to repair, find an American Bosch MJC4/2 180 deg C407 with a ACS2A5 coupler.

I was told that a Wico 1042 will work, is this correct?

Yes it will work too. Only difference is the 1042 should have short lug drive cup on impulse and 477 for a D or others should have long lug drive cup. Sometimes you will find a 1042 with long lugs as it has been changed and vice versa on 477. They can either be set from 35 degrees to 25 degrees which is where we set them now for gasoline engines.
