I HAVE A 720D THAT I COVERTED TO ELETRIC START 3 YRS AGO AND I WAS A FAIRLY EASY TASK. THE PARTS I PURCHASED I THINK WERE OFF OF A 730, BOLTED RIGHT ON. I COST ME ABOUT 450.00 FOR THE TOTAL CONVERSION INCLUDING 24V GENERATOR AND BATTERIES. ITS BEEN 3 YRS AND TRACTOR STILL STARTS PERFECTLY AND IS MUCH MORE HANDY. ALSO THE 730 WIRING DIAGRAM IS WHAT I FOLLOWED.

Neighbor has a 720 with electric start pony (I think) I know it has a pony and it is a diesel. I used to run it when I was a kid and it was a pullin horse! Another fella has bought it since and has spent a lot of money on it mechanicaly, plus paint and tin etc. It is northeast NY. Mike

Im looking for one that has direct electric start to start the diesel, no gas starting engine at all. But thank you for your help.

I THINK-I could be wrong, that the direct electric was only a 1958 option? Anyone know? I have only found two of them and they are both in junk yards and have had parts removed. I want one that runs, that I can restore in my spare time. I plan on fully restoring it, but I dont want to have to start buying gears, head, block, etc. Want it all to be there to begin with.

The reson I want the electric start is that parts for the gas starting engine are getting hard to find, and as I don't want to use this tractor much, starting in the winter isn't an issue.

If anyone knows of one, PLEASE let me know! I prefer a 1958, NFE, 3pt, dual hyd. but I can add the 3pd and dual hyd. This would duplicate the tractor I learned to farm with except for the electric start part.

According to my parts book, the direct electric starter option for the 720's started at serial number 7222600, Which was a little while after the 58 models came out. 1958 models started with serial number 7217368, I think. I hope this will help you in your search for the tractor you want. Good luck.

Thanks, if I cant find the direct electric, Im thinking about making one. Im sure I could find the bracked for the starter, and I assume a gas hood would be the same as the non pony motor diesel hood? I have a parts book someplace, I just cant find it.
