I've been working on a 4010 dsl that has been sitting for about 5 years. I dumped out all the old fuel changed filters and tractor starts right up and idles very smoothly. The problem is when I crack the throttle, it is slugish and seems to hesitate or slowly come up to high rpms. What should I look at next? Injectors? Injector pump? Lift pump? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Just check one quick thing before you go any deeper, every one of these 10 and 20 series I have worked on have had this same problem, check to make sure the fuel return to the tank is totally open. Even the slightest restriction will cause you problems. If it is open then proceed

Haven't seen one for years , but has the injection pump been updated with a speed advance kit? If not, it will be a bit slow to accelerate. What is the model number of the pump?

Remove the injection pump timing window. If you see something that resembles coffee grounds, have the injection pump rebuilt.

It's possible from all the years of setting that the throttle valve in the injection pump is sticking and slow to respond. Add some automatic transmission fluid to the diesel fuel and run the tractor often at various loads. It might work out of the sluggishness. Give it a try before you tear things apart. If you know someone with a dynamometer have them test the power.

start with the easy stuff. adjust engine valves. take the return line off the nozzles and run it. should barely drip out of nozzle. if its a lot then replace nozzles dont even bother testing them. lift pump would probably be a good idea to replace. make sure fuel tank valve is all the way open. and fuel lines arent pinched or bent. take the timing windows off and make sure pump is timed correctly. leave the injection pump for last since its the most expensive
