flywheel paint question

I'm in the process of restoring my 41 B. While taking the paint off of the flywheel, it looked like at one point the "LH Impulse" and "LH Exhaust" were painted yellow. Is is supposed to be that way? I know some people do their own little customizations. I did on an A that I had and painted the numbers on the shift quadrant. I just didn't know if it was supposed to be that way or not.

Thanks.

A friend of mine has a video tape that shows how Deere painted their tractors. The primary purpose of painting the tractor was simply to protect the metal, and make the tractor look green. I don't recall seeing anything being done, that couldn't have been done with a paint grenade, other than the final silk screening of the John Deere logo. Someone probably just painted the words yellow to their own personal liking. Just be glad they didn't paint the whole flywheel yellow!

I never saw any evidence of them being yellow originally. I used to see tractors at shows with all kinda things highlighted and never liked it. Well now that I'm older, and my eyes aren't as sharp, and I have more tractors with all kinda gear shift patterns and always seem to be loading and unloading at night time I have decided that if I highlight my shift tower numbers in yellow it IS a saftey measure. Makes them much easier to see ! That's my reasoning and I'm sticking to it !

Jon -- I've been in a few Deere showrooms during the early years, and I don't recall seeing those letters painted on the new tractors; not on the flywheel nor on the atop the transmission cover. So I doubt any came from the factory that way -- I'm not an authority, just a witness. It's kind of like painting wheel stud heads green. I don't think that's "factory" either, but personal taste. Again, it's a matter of choice. (PatB)

Dad could have backed that up. Back years ago when I repainted my 44' A, I painted the shift quadrant numbers and the H and L for the range stick yellow. Dad commented 'it would have been nice if they had come from the factory like that'.
Dad was a veteran of many new Deere arrivals from the factory especially 2 cylinders.

The old pictures I have the letters on the fly wheel are painted yellow, but I painted mine they look sharp that way.
