I have the serial number 108367T and also there is another number above that t4ric. Now if you take that T of the first number that gives you the ser number for a 1970 1020 which is what I thought this was since the beginning. What is that T on there for? On the motor above type it has m41TR and the m is smaller and lightly impressed, also above ser it has 165021T. Can you get the history on this tractor from two-cylinder or somewhere else? The only thing preventing us from saying this is a 1020 ag painted yellow is this huge hydraulic pump, also the front pto is different. So my conclusion is it was a special order for a golf course like resting relics said. And WTW it does have live pto you just cant see it in the pictures. So what can we agree on?

As for the yellow color... is there any reason to believe that it wasn't just sandblasted at some point in its life and painted yellow? That would explain the lack of green paint, too. Seems more likely than a special order color from the factory, if you ask me.

No there is not a spot a green on this boy. I have heard from several people that they could be ordered from the factory yellow.

These tractors as well as many other AG models were available from the factory in yellow and orange for county, state, city and municipal uses. DW

Alex, As Tx Jim correctly corrected me on my last post the tractor has manual steering that I mistaken for an open center steering valve which made me think it had open center hydraulics. I was wrong on both those comments. Very Rare to find these tractors with manual steering. You do have somewhat of a live PTO but not "Independent PTO" Your tractor has a two stage clutch controlled by the foot clutch pedal. The first two-thirds of foot clutch pedal travel will release the first stage which is your traction clutch and the remainder of foot clutch travel will release the PTO and traction clutch. This feature John Deere called "Continuos PTO" An "Independent" PTO is an individual lever that controlled a hydraulic PTO clutch unit inside the transmission and could be turned on or off at any moment no matter if traction clutch was up or down. The front PTO was usually an added option as not all Dubuque built tractors had them. If it has front PTO it should have a mechanical lever to disconnect it just as the rear PTO does located just behind front lever on the same (left side) of transmission. Both front and rear PTO are clutched by the second stage of the two stage clutch. Unique little tractor! DW

WTW you are right on with pto and clutch operation. So the terminology is continous pto. Thanks. And everyone has room for correcting, has happened to the best of us:)

Great info joe. That tells me it is 1020! So that gigantic pump must have been an option along with that classy looking yellow. The only problem I see joe is that we have a hi-lo on ours and that chart of yours says we have a "collar shift"....so was there a collar shift with a hi lo or is this another mystery. Thanks for the help. Alex

The mechanical hi-lo that your tractor has is the standard collar shift hi-lo that all Dubuque tractor of this series had. A second hydraulic shifted hi-lo was an option that was controlled by an "Independent lever" that could be shifted on the go without clutching. Control lever for this option was on the opposite side of the steering wheel from the throttle lever. It looked just like the throttle lever only on the other side. There is a plug on your dash board that this lever would go through if so equipped. Tractors equipped with the hydraulic shifted hi-lo also kept the standard shift hi-lo which gave the hydraulic hi-lo equipped tractors sixteen forward speeds, eight reverses verses the eight and four the standard option tractor had without hydraulic hi-lo. This tractor doesn't have a high-low.The high-low is a lever on the left side of the dash. That's what that little round plug is for in the dash. It's the standard collar shift tranny.A lot of the yellow 1020 tractors were built, mostly for state highway tractors. It was cheaper to buy a yellow 1020 ag tractor, than the 300 industrial model. They did the same thing with the 1010 models, just painted them yellow for highway use. Most had the cheaper flat 3pt arms, instead of the square adjustable type.

A hi-lo or reverser option would have a little lever up on the dash to the left of the steering wheel where you have a blank plug in the hole. You may have a live pto which uses a 2 stage clutch verses the independent pto which is not connected to the clutch and has a lever to operate it between the shifters. Lots and lots of options on these tractors !
