I have a '41 B. there is a fitting on the governor and a rubber hose that goes to the oil pressure gauge. according to the parts book it should be a "pipe". what diameter of metal pipe should I be looking for? it appears from the parts book that it has a bushing and nut similar to compression fittings like for plumbing, but obviously smaller. is this correct?

I use steel brake line and brass farrels. Just get a piece a little longer than you need so that you can cut the flares off both ends. Original lines seemed to be more like steel lines than copper.

Jon, you can still get the part B1941R from Deere. The Downside is that it's almost 43 BUCKS!!!!
Tube measures 3/16" OD, not sure where you would get the little sleeves that go in the ends if you make your own. Good luck.

There needs to be an elbow where it goes into the gauge and where it comes out of the gov housing as well.

Yes. If I recall, it was 1/8 inch copper tubing. You use ferrules and the appropriate fittings. Elbow out of the governor, straight up to the gauge where you'll have to make some intricate but not too hard bends. Don't kink the piping.
